Talc is basically a mineral which belongs to the class of silicates. The formation of talc is achieved when the carbonate sediments undergo through contact metamorphosis. It is also formed when the magmatic rocks which are rich in magnesium undergoes the hydrothermal alteration. The rocks which contain talc are metamorphic in nature and therefore talc is produced as secondary mineral.
Talc is also known as steatite and if we talk in chemical terms then it is called hydrated magnesium silicate. It is essential ingredient of soapstone. Talcum is the grounded talc.
Talc is the softest mineral, and the silicate layers of it are placed on the top of some other layers. But they do not bound with each other through chemical bond due to chemical inertness. Rather, they are bounded with the vander Waals forces which are very weak. Because of this only talc gets platy appearance and also the soapy and greasy characteristics.
Talc in its pure form appears white. If some other substances are added in the talc then the color becomes pink or grey accordingly. The other minerals which are there with it include dolomite, calcite, chlorite, quartz and vermiculite.
Talc has the properties that make it insoluble, hydrophobic, chemically inert, acid resistant and also non toxic. It does not have taste and aroma.
We provide best quality TALC powder that is metamorphic hydrated magnesium silicate . TALC powder provided by us is free from any impurities and calcium free . We are also soap stone mines owner hence we are amongst the few manufacturers who hold both mines and powder factory . Thus we can provide unmatched quality of TALC POWDER in bulk quality . Our natural soapstone provides good opacity to the end products .
Uses of TALC POWDER in following industries :-
Plastic Industry
High quality ultra fine talc is used in polypropylene, poly amides, cable PVC and other plastic compounds. It is excellent filler due to blending characteristics and thermal and electrical resistant. It is chemically inert. It provides the smooth feel to plastic surface. Due to its chemical inertness, superior electrical and thermal resistance and other properties talc imparts stiffness, hardness, tensile strength of plastic products, improves quality of their surfaces, gives them electrical, chemical and thermal resistance. Due to this characteristics Talc is being increasingly used in HDPE, pp, LDPE, PVC, abs & thermosetting compounds.
The Plastic Industries uses Talc of 20µ to 1µ particle size.
Paint Industry
Owing to its low cost and platy structure, Talc is widely used in the production of decorative paints, industrial coatings, pigment pastes, primers, enamels, adhesives, putties and other products of the industry. It helps in reinforcment of paint film , reduce quantity of primary pigment consumed , controls gloss of paints and improves stain resistance In paints The amount of Talc used in paints varies between 2 to 30%.
The oil absorption of Talc used in Paints is between 40 to 60 gm per 100 gm.
Also the fineness of Talc used in paints varies between 100µ to 20µ.
Ceramic Industry
In ceramics talc is used mostly as low cost filler in ceramic tiles, sanitary ware, dinnerware, porcelain and electrical insulating.
The Talc used is generally of 80-93% whiteness and 200-300 Mes
Pharmaceutical Industry
In pharmaceuticals talc is used as filler in tablets, ointments and dustings. Talc used in this industry must be highly pure, bacteria free, must contain no iron oxide, dolomite, carbon and other impurities.
Paper Industry
Soap stone powder (talc) is used in three stages of paper making -as a filler, to control pitch and stickiest and in paper coating. During the paper making process, the micro impurities can clog the paper machinery. Talc being hydrophobic absorbs these micro droplets thus controlling their stickiness and avoiding clogging. High brightness of talc leads to reduction in usage of expensive whitening agents and helps in controlling gloss of the coat. Talc gives smoothness, yellow index, porosity, and opacity to paper, improves its yellow index and reduces the deterioration of the machinery. Our grades of talc powder are in wide range for paper industries.
Paper industry is the largest consumer of Talc and generally uses 300 Mesh (53µ) with the range of brightness varying between 80% to 96%.
Cosmetic Industry
The natural qualities of talc gives cosmetics stability, texture, skin adhesion, slip and water resistance . Talc is pure, odorless and free from impurities. Talc is not only used in Body Talc (Talcum Powder) and Toilet Soaps, but also in Detergents and Washing Powder. In body talc, it acts as a perfume carrier due to its chemical inertness and lamellar structure. We also do sterilization of body talc powder to remove any microbiological contamination . In soaps, talc is mainly used as a filler. The consumption of talc in Soap, varies between 5 to 40% depending on the quality and type of soap. It also acts as a binding agent and gives hardness to the cake.
Other allied Industries
Dal mills (pulses polishing), textile, printing ink, rubber industry and as a filler raw material in many chemical industries.
